Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have a bedroom in the basement?
If you have a basement bedroom, building code requires an egress window to be installed inside that bedroom.
If you have multiple bedrooms, each one must have its own egress window to meet safety and code requirements.
My basement is finished—can you still install an egress window?
Yes—absolutely. In fact, most of our projects are in finished basements.
We complete the installation from the exterior and take great care to protect your interior space from dust and debris. Once the window is installed and passes city inspection, we offer interior trim packages to complete your egress window.
How quickly can I get an estimate?
Right away. Call us for a free, no-obligation estimate, and we’ll walk through your egress project, and provide a clear pricing.
How do you prevent the window well from filling with water?
Proper drainage is everything. We install a drainage reservoir within the well to allow water to disperse naturally.
We have well cover options or referrals. We can also provide guidance to help keep rain and debris directed away from your home.
Will cutting into my foundation weaken my home?
No—when done correctly. There are two scenarios: Non-load-bearing areas (most common): No structural impact
Load-bearing areas: We install a header system to properly distribute weight. Your home’s structural integrity is always protected.
Do you guarantee against water leaks?
Our installation methods are designed to prevent leaks from the start.
Window manufacturers provide warranties for seal failure and glass issues.
If there are existing drainage concerns, we’ll address those before installation to ensure long-term performance.
If planning to tie into an interior drainage system → we cannot warranty work done by others.
Will there be a mess afterward?
No. We remove all debris and clean the work area thoroughly.
Concrete removal is included, and we can haul away excess dirt if needed.
Our goal: it looks like we were never there—except for your new egress window system.
What if I don’t have a block foundation? (CMU)
No problem. We carry the knowledge and experience to carefully modify any type of foundation—then complete the installation as usual.
Do I need a permit?
Yes— we obtain it for you, with no added fees.
Required permit is obtained on your behalf, and permit fees are included in our package pricing.
How long does installation take?
Our egress windows are completed in one day, typically between 4 and 6 hours.
Multiple windows or complex projects may take multiple days.
If interior finishing is requested, we return after inspection for final trim work.
Can you install near utilities?
Yes. We always contact Gopher State One Call, which ensures all underground public utilities are properly marked before digging.
Any private utilities ran by a homeowner must be clearly marked if location is known.
We then hand-dig around those areas for maximum safety and precision.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We are:
Fully insured
Licensed Minnesota Residential Building Contractor
We are also an EPA Lead Certified Firm
